Starting a Stage
Each Stage will have three wave starts. The wave in which each team starts will be pre-determined and will be based on the team's predicted overall time (i.e. 22hrs, 27hrs, 31hrs, etc.). This time includes only the time predicted to complete all five Stages, it does not include any of the stop-over time at the Staging Points. All teams must submit their predicted overall time before May 1st. The slowest teams will start the race first and the fastest teams will start last. Once the Stage has started, each of the subsequent Legs within that Stage are run in a continuous format.
While running in a continuous Leg, all Team Support Vans may support their respective runner but must follow the Relay Rules. At the end of each Leg the Team Support Van will await their respective runner's arrival at a given Exchange Zone. Once their respective runner has made the exchange to the next runner the team van will then be allowed to leave the Exchange Zone and carefully drive ahead to support their runner on the next Leg. This process is repeated until the end of the respective Stage
At the end of a given Stage the runner on the final Leg of the Stage will finish and the team will have a chance to regroup. We anticipate that there will be approximately sixty (60) to seventy five (75) minutes between the first team in a given wave finishing the Stage and that wave's start for the following Stage. For the slower teams their final runner may actually finish a given Stage after the start of the following Stage. In this case, the runner starting the next stage will start as normal and the team will await the arrival of the last runner from the previous Stage. As teams will have two support vehicles, one can stay at the staging point to await the runner's arrival and the other can go on to support their runners in the upcoming Legs of the next Stage. Please note that all Staging Points will have washroom facilities, the opportunity to re-supply your team van with water, sports drink and assorted fruit.
